Get to know the points system in Gamilab!

For all game types the default value for each node (step or stop) is 100 points. Beyond that, the points system works a little differently in the different game types. Here we explain how.

The Bike Race game

The points given during the Bike Race that are displayed on the screen, does only count for the cyclist’s energy level. Let’s for the sake of education call this value kiloJoule (kJ). These “energy points” will not be summarized and displayed anywhere besides as a factor influencing the time of the race.

The energy points you get when answering correctly are linearly calculated from the time you use to respond correctly.

Here are some examples:

• If you answer within less than 1 second, it gives you an energy boost of 38.
• If you answer within less than 5 seconds, it gives you an energy boost of 33.
• If you answer within less than 10 seconds, it gives you an energy boost of 27.

For the math and physics teachers and geeks out there, this is the formula used to calculate energy:

Energy (kJ) = ((30 - t)/30+0.1)*35

In addition to the energy points, each correct “question stop” will be rewarded with 100 points for correct answers. You can find an overview of this amongst the results you have access to as the owner of a game. Maximum score is 800 points regardless of how many questions you add to the 8 stops along the track.

The King of the Mountain game

For the King of the Mountain game the score will always be 100 points for each flag the climber gets past. When a climber reaches the top of the mountain, he will therefore always have 700 out of 700 points as he can’t pass a flag and proceed without answering correctly.

These points does currently not count for anything, as it is a time based game with a high score list based on time. You can find an overview of this amongst the results you have access to as the owner of a game.

The Explore game

For Explore games you can manually set what every node is worth, and thus overwrite the default value of 100 points per node.
